  • Page 11 5. OPERATING & USING THE CARE BED SAFELY 5.1 The functions of the handset This Care Bed is supplied with a simple handset. The handset can be used by either the bed occupant or the carer. The handset also features a lockout facility, enabling the carer to disable functions of the bed which the carer feels unsuitable for the occupant.
  • Page 12 5.1 Setting the Lock out function of the handset 1. To lock any function of the bed, insert lockout key into handset 2. Hold the ‘UP’ key of the corresponding button function to be ‘locked out’ until illumination light of that channel is lit. 3.
  • Page 13 Operating the knee break/leg section The bed is fitted with an adjustable leg section. When the function on the handset is activated, the height or angle of the leg section is adjusted accordingly, dependant on whether the leg support bar is located on the underside of the leg support in the receiving or not.   • Page 14 5.4 Extending the bed frame 1. Ensure the wheel brakes are on at the head end, as the bed extends at the foot end. 2. Lower the leg rest section to horizontal using the handset accordingly. 3. Loosen the two hand wheels, one each side of the bed that secures the extenders. 4.

  • Page 17 7. ACCESSORIES 7.1 LIFTING POLE ACCESSORY The Patient Lifting Pole accessory is supplied complete with a strap handle. WARNING! The maximum supported weight of the Lifting pole accessory is 80kg (12 stone) Ensure the pole is located and fitted correctly prior to use.     7.2 BATTERY BACKUP The Care Bed is NOT fitted with Battery backup as standard, but can be purchased in addition. In the event of a power loss, the bed will not function, which could result in the height, tilt, backrest or knee break remaining in an up position.

    CLEANING & DECONTAMINATION WARNING! Disconnect the bed from the mains power supply prior to carrying out any cleaning or decontaminating. DO NOT SATURATE PRODUCT IF PRODUCT GETS SATURATED DURING CLEANING, THIS COULD ACCELERATE CORROSION, REDUCING THE PRODUCTS LENGTH OF SERVICE. Frequency of routine bed cleaning will depend on exact application.

    MAINTENANCE It is recommended that only authorised and qualified service engineers should carry out any service repair activities. Failure to adhere to this advice may result in the manufacturer’s warranty being null and void. The Care Bed and any accessories attached should be serviced a minimum of every 12 months, and more frequently if the bed is in constant use.

  • Page 25 The mattress and overlay are manufactured from polyurethane foam and their design incorporates: • Profiled, contoured surface divided into 5 zones in which the effective “hardness” of the foam is varied along the length of the mattress/ overlay in accordance with the anthropomorphical distribution of body mass.
