TIP
Always replace the brake pads, brake pad shims
and brake pad spring as a set.
a. Connect a clear plastic hose "1" tightly to
the bleed screw "2". Put the other end of
the hose into an open container.
b. Loosen the bleed screw and push the
brake caliper pistons into the brake caliper
with your finger.
c. Tighten the bleed screw.

5 N·m (0.5 kgf·m, 3.7 lb·ft)
d. Install a new brake pad shim "3" onto each
new brake pad "4".
e. Install new brake pads and a new brake
pad spring "5".
4. Install:
• Rear brake pad retaining bolt

17 N·m (1.7 kgf·m, 13 lb·ft)
5. Check:
• Brake fluid level
Below the minimum level mark "a" → Add the
recommended brake fluid to the proper level.
REAR BRAKE
6. Check:
• Brake pedal operation
Soft or spongy feeling → Bleed the brake sys-
tem.
Refer to "BLEEDING THE HYDRAULIC
BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS)" on page 3-20.

REMOVING THE REAR BRAKE CALIPER

TIP
Before disassembling the brake caliper, drain
the brake fluid from the entire brake system.

• Keep any type of magnets (including mag-
netic pick-up tools, magnetic screwdrivers,
etc.) away from the rear wheel sensor or
rear wheel sensor rotor; otherwise, the sen-
sor or rotor may be damaged, resulting in
improper performance of the ABS system.
• Do not drop the rear wheel sensor rotor or
subject it to shocks.
• If any solvent gets on the rear wheel sensor
rotor, wipe it off immediately.
1. Remove:
• Rear wheel sensor
• Rear brake hose union bolt "1"
• Brake hose gaskets "2"
• Rear brake hose (hydraulic unit to brake cali-
per) "3"
