Powering Up
Chapter 2
This chapter assumes that all components of the MS/ETD System have been
installed and that all vacuum, gas and electrical connections are made according to
the instructions in
Chapter 1, "Making the External Connections."
To power up the MS/ETD System
1. Turn On the MS data system computer and complete the data system software
startup procedure. If necessary carry out the software upgrade and
configuration procedures described in
Configuring the System."
2. Turn On the flows of helium and nitrogen gases.
3. Make sure that the MS Main Power and Service Mode switches are in their Off
positions.
4. Plug the power cords for the ETD module and the MS detector into their wall
outlets.
5. Place the Main Power switch for the MS detector in the On (I) position.
The forepumps and the turbomolecular pumps start. Allow the MS to pump
down for 5 minutes.
6. Place the Service Mode switch for the MS detector in the Electronics Normal
position.
The MS/ETD System will continue the power up process as described in both the
LTQ XL Hardware Manual (Chapter 5, System Shutdown, Startup, and Reset) and
the ETD Module Hardware Manual (Chapter 5, Shutdown and Startup).
