6.2 Applying Power to the Drive

HAZARDOUS VOLTAGE
AC drives contain hazardous voltage when connected to the AC mains or connected on the DC terminals. Failure to perform
installation, start-up, and maintenance by qualified personnel can result in death or serious injury.
-
Only qualified personnel must perform installation, start-up, and maintenance.
UNINTENDED START
When the drive is connected to the AC mains, DC supply, or load sharing, the motor may start at any time, causing risk of death,
serious injury, and equipment or property damage. The motor may start by activation of an external switch, a fieldbus command,
an input reference signal from the LCP or LOP, via remote operation using MCT 10 Set-up software, or after a cleared fault condi-
tion.
-
Press [Off] on the LCP before programming parameters.
-
Disconnect the drive from the mains whenever personal safety considerations make it necessary to avoid unintended motor
start.
-
Check that the drive, motor, and any driven equipment are in operational readiness.
MISSING SIGNAL
If the status line at the bottom of the LCP reads AUTO REMOTE COASTING, or alarm 60, External interlock is shown, it indicates that
the unit is ready to operate but is missing an input signal on, for example, terminal 27.

5.12 Enabling Motor Operation
Procedure
1.
Before applying power to the drive, verify that the drive and any associated equipment is ready for operation. Refer to the
Pre-start Check List.
2.
Ensure that all operated devices are in the OFF position.
3.
Ensure that input power to the unit is OFF and locked out. Do not rely on the drive disconnect switches for input power
isolation.
4.
Verify that there is no voltage on input terminals L1 (91), L2 (92), and L3 (93), phase-to-phase, and phase-to-ground.
5.
Verify that there is no voltage on output terminals 96 (U), 97 (V), and 98 (W), phase-to phase, and phase-to-ground.
6.
Ensure that any optional equipment wiring matches the installation requirements.
7.
Close and securely fasten all covers and doors on the drive.
8.
Confirm that the input voltage is balanced within 3%. If not balanced, correct the input voltage imbalance before proceed-
ing. Repeat this procedure after the voltage correction.
9.
Apply power to the unit, but do not start the drive. For units with a disconnect switch, turn the switch to the ON position to
apply power to the drive.

Check for
For IP20/Type 1 enclosures, ensure that the unit is mounted on an unpainted, metal surface.
Check that the unit is mounted solidly, or that shock mounts are used, if necessary.
Check for an unusual amount of vibration.
