Bipolar Coagulation Currents

Micro Coag
Bipolar coagulation current for bipolar microsurgical instruments. This current takes account of
tissue- and instrument-specific conditions of microsurgical applications. In other words, voltage and
current intensity are automatically adjusted to given impedances.
Micro Stop
In terms of quality, this current is identical with the "Micro Coag" current. In addition, it offers an
auto-stop function that blocks power output as soon as a predefined degree of coagulation is
reached. This stop criterion can be set in accordance with the user's preferences via
"MENU"/"Setup"/"Automatic mode"/"Coagulation degree"/"Bipo coag degree mic". This setting ap-
plies to both bipolar channels, B1 and B2, but only for the specific application program.
Auto Micro
In addition to the auto-stop function, "Auto Micro" offers an auto-start function as well. After the
bipolar instrument (forceps) has touched the tissue, the coagulation process starts automatically in
accordance with the criteria defined under "Micro Stop".
Via "MENU"/"Setup"/"Automatic mode"/"Auto-start delay", you can set a delay period (0–5 sec-
onds) to elapse before power is actually supplied to the active electrode after making contact with
the tissue.
The auto-start mode is particularly useful in microsurgery because users frequently cannot tolerate
vibrations in their hands caused by the bodily movements associated with activating the current
with the footswitch.

Never use the auto-start function in laparoscopic applications!
The reason for this is that accidental generator activation cannot be ruled out while the instru-
ment moves through the trocar. For safety reasons, therefore, the system always prompts the
user to confirm activation whenever an application program that uses this function is selected.
This also applies when one of the last-used application programs includes an auto-start cur-
rent, as may be offered by the maxium after switching it on.
