3.3 Electronics of the AUTOCON

3.3.1 Power supply

The AUTOCON
®
II 400 can be operated with 220 V ... 240 V or 100 V ... 120 V line voltage. The
corresponding value (230 V for 220 V ... 240 V, or 115 V for 110 V ... 120 V line voltage) must be
displayed legibly in the window on the power input socket, and fuses with the ratings specified on the
manufacturer's identification plate must be installed.
Note:
An incorrect setting or the wrong fuses may result in damage to the device.

3.3.1.1 Low-voltage power supply I

The low-voltage power supply I generates +5 V, +15 V, -15 V and +24 V operating voltages. The range of
input voltages for this power supply is 90 V to 264 V at 50 Hz or 60 Hz. If the line voltage is switched at
the power input socket, this power supply will not be affected.

3.3.1.2 High-voltage power supply

The high-voltage power supply delivers a DC voltage of up to 450 V to the HF generator. The voltage
depends on the surgical effect that is selected, and the AC voltage that it requires.

3.3.1.3 Low-voltage power supply II

The low-voltage power supply II is a medical power supply unit which supplies the baseboard with
24 VDC voltage. The TFT display, touch screen, backlight inverter, core module, KARL STORZ-SCB
flash module and ESI are supplied with power from the baseboard and this power supply. It delivers
40 W of power.

3.3.2 Black Box HF generator

3.3.2.1 HF generator

The high-frequency generator comprises the "HF generator" circuit board, which holds the power
components, as well as the programmable logic (CPLD) which is responsible for controlling the
transistors although it is located on the "CPU & Sensors" board.
3.3.2.2 CPU & Sensors
The "CPU & Sensors" board accommodates the processor which carries out open- and closed-loop
control for all the hardware assemblies contained in the HF device, and ensures the necessary exchange
of data with the software modules. All the relevant sensors are also accommodated on this board.

3.3.2.3 Instrument interface (IIF)

The function of the instrument interface is to communicate the essential instrument information to the
system via an electrically-isolated serial interface.

3.3.2.4 NESSY2

The NESSY2 assembly measures the electrical resistance between the two connections to the neutral
electrode. The currents in the two connecting leads are also measured.
The measured values are transferred to "CPU & Sensors" using an electrically-isolated, asynchronous
serial interface. There, they are converted to CAN, and the control panel is notified. An assessment is
then carried out here to decide whether or not the transition resistance will allow activation. The system
also checks whether or not the defined limits for current density and symmetry have been exceeded.
