Shared Access Printing
The optimum Windows printing configuration for you depends upon your particular
environment including user and administrator experience and preferences. Generally,
NetWare Print Services will be utilized when a NetWare server is present. In the
absence of a NetWare server, LPR printing in combination with Shared Access
printing is often used in environments where TCP/IP is already in use. Peer to Peer
printing is most often used when a NetWare server is not available and when TCP/IP is
not in use.

5.1.1 Windows Shared Access Printing Overview

For clarity in describing the process of printer sharing, the term "host" is used to refer
to a Windows machine that has defined a network printer and enabled sharing of that
printer. The term "client" is used to refer to a Windows machine which accesses a
printer shared by a Windows "host". Any Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows
95/98, or Windows NT 3.51 or 4.0 machine may function as either a client or a host
(or both).
