Tip
• If you're playing a high signal level source which is
producing unpleasant distortion from the speakers,
you can reduce the signal level of the auxiliary source
(connected to the ANALOG AUDIO inputs) by
switching on the attenuator. See Optional system
settings on page 124 for how to do this.
• When listening to dual mono Dolby Digital or DTS
material through the optical digital input, you can
use the AUDIO button to change the playback
channel (left, right or both).
Analog out mode
The analog out mode allows you to make surround-
compatible recordings from the ANALOG AUDIO (OUT)
jacks. Dolby multichannel sources will be downmixed to
stereo for improved playback with systems that can
provide matrix-decoding (like Dolby Pro Logic).
1
Press SHIFT and SOUND.
2
Use the
(cursor left/right) buttons to select
'A. Out Mode', then press ENTER.
3
Use the
(cursor up/down) buttons to select
'A. Out Fix' or 'A. Out Norm'.
• A. Out Fix – A surround-compatible downmix (left-
total/right-total, or Lt/Rt) of Dolby multichannel
sources is output, (suitable for Dolby Pro Logic or
other matrix decoding).
• A. Out Norm – A simple stereo downmix (left-only/
right-only, or Lo/Ro) is output (suitable for playback
on a two-channel stereo system or on headphones).
4
Press ENTER to confirm.
Note
• When analog out mode is set to A. Out Fix, most
surround sound-related functions cannot be used.
The display will briefly blink 'A. Out Fix' if you try and
use a prohibited function.
• When analog out mode is set to A. Out Norm, the
audio from the analog output may be interrupted,
depending on the operation.
• The Analog out mode automatically switches A. Out
Norm if you change the input function (HDD/DVD,
FM/AM, etc.) or switch the power off.
