Removing and replacing Tier 1 CRUs

Replacement of Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If IBM installs a Tier 1 CRU at
your request, you will be charged for the installation.
The illustrations in this document might differ slightly from your hardware.

Removing the cover

Attention:
server. Operating the server for more than 2 minutes with the cover removed might
damage server components.
To remove the cover, complete the following steps.
1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and "Installation guidelines"
2. Turn off the server and all peripheral devices; then, disconnect the power cords
3. Lay the server on its right side.
4. Remove the two thumbscrews at the rear of the cover.
5. Lift the rear of the cover and pull it toward the rear of the server to disengage
6. If you are instructed to return the cover, follow all packaging instructions, and
7. If you are not returning the cover, store it and the thumbscrews in a safe place
For proper cooling and airflow, replace the cover before turning on the
Thumbscrews
on page 55.
