Removing the system board

To remove the system board, complete the following steps.
System board
screws (7 places)
1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and "Installation guidelines"
on page 55.
2. Turn off the server and all peripheral devices; then, disconnect the power
cords and all external cables.
3. Remove the cover (see "Removing the cover" on page 57).
Attention:
Do not place any strain on the cables that are connected to the
drives in the drive cage; if necessary, disconnect these cables from the drives
before removing the drive cage.
4. Remove the drive cage:
a. Move the locking lever on the drive cage to the Unlock position.
b. Firmly grasp the drive cage and slide it toward the rear of the server until it
disengages from the chassis.
c. Lift the drive cage out of the server.
5. Remove the system fan (see "Removing the system fan" on page 74).
6. Note where each cable is connected; then, disconnect all cables from the
system board.
7. Remove any of the following components that are installed on the system
board and put them in a safe, static-protective place:
v Adapters (see "Removing an adapter" on page 61).
v Microprocessor and fan-sink (see "Removing the microprocessor and fan
sink" on page 83).
v DIMMs (see "Removing a memory module" on page 63).
v Battery (see "Removing the battery" on page 65).
