Troubleshooting

With its advanced design, the Gas Laser is one of the most reliable meth-
ane detection instruments available. Should you experience problems, there
is most likely a simple cause. The following table provides a list of common
problems, cause and solution.
Should you have a problem not listed, or the recommended solution doesn't
work, please contact Teledyne GMI Customer Service for further assistance.
Do not use the instrument for scan work until the problem is resolved.
Symptom
Higher than normal short range, and
lower than normal long range readings
Concentration reading is low
and will not pass the Self Test
Unit will not turn on   
Continual warning sound or screen
notification when scanning
Excessive false detection while
scanning at longer distances
Excessive false detection while
scanning at closer distances
Excessive false detection or
loss of sensitivity
Error message or Warning icon
on continuously
Reduced run time
Low Signal or Low Light
Saturated
No WiFi connection

Probable Cause(s)
Laser calibration has drifted
Laser calibration has drifted
Low battery
Scanning at distance beyond Gas Laser range
Background surface is absorbing or reflecting the
IR light level
Low battery
Scanning too fast
Alarm detection threshold set too low
Scanning at the instrument's range limit
Scanning too fast
Alarm detection threshold set too low
Laser output not optimized
Alarm Detection Threshold is too high or low for
conditions
Low battery
Moisture condensation on mirror due to rapid
change in temperature
Internal component failure
Battery not fully charged
Diminished battery capacity
Background surface is absorbing or reflecting the
IR light level
Scanning at the range limit of the instrument
Background surface is reflecting the IR light level
Incorrect credentials
Outside of WiFi range
WiFi disabled in menu
Bluetooth is disabled
Device not paired
USB cable does not work
Port is not working
Low battery
Driver did not install properly

CAUTION
CAUTION: Only a qualified Gas Laser
repair technician should attempt re-
pairs/adjustments.
CAUTION: Make no attempt to repair
the instrument. There are no user
serviceable components within the
Gas Laser.
Solution
Run Self Test
Run Self Test up to three (3) times and then
contact Teledyne GMI Customer Service
Replace or recharge battery pack
Move closer to the target
Change angle to target to get a better reflecting
background
Check battery level and recharge if necessary
- Slow down the scanning rate
- Pause at the long range and sweep towards you
Increase the Alarm detection threshold
Move in closer
Avoid making abrupt motions while scanning
Increase the Alarm Detection Threshold
Perform Self Test procedure
Check the Alarm Detection Threshold
Check battery level and recharge if necessary
Allow for the instrument temperature to stabilize
Note error message and contact Teledyne GMI
Charge battery pack until solid green light on
charger is on
Replace battery pack, and properly dispose of
exhausted battery pack
Change angle to the target for a better background
Move in closer
Change angle to the target for a better background
Verify credentials
Place unit closer to WiFi point
Enable WiFi in menu
Enable Bluetooth in menu
Pair device with instrument
Use another USB cable
Try another USB port or allow computer to load drivers
Charge or replace battery pack
Uninstall device driver and allow to reinstall
