Against Explosions (Explosion - Proof Units
Only):
The purpose of the procedure that follows is to build fiber rope
dams on the top and bottom hubs of the vertical conduit. The
fiber rope da m ns w ill surround con duit wiri ng t hat is hous ed
inside the vertical condu it.
When both the top and bottom fiber rope dams have been
pressed into place, sealing compound is poured between the
two and form s into an airtight plu g.
All of thi s is done in order to preve nt the very real threat of
gas entering the junction box and a resulting serious
explosion.
After the unit wir es hav e be en pu l led throu gh the vertical
conduit the following procedure is required:
Turn power o ff at the cir cui t breaker before
proceeding.
Place a sm all amount of sealing compound
gran ules, enclosed, into a clean mixing vessel. Add
s m all am ounts of w ater whil e stirring un til a thick
pas te is f ormed , then caref ully con tinue adding
smaller am ou nts of water until a th ick grav y
consistenc y is achiev ed — NOT WA TERY. Dis card
any material tha t becom es too sti ff to us e. Never
attempt to r es tore workability by stirring in more
water.
Locate junction box, back/top-center of unit.
Unscr ew con duit do med- cover.
