Working with HP supported wireless authentication protocols
Instructions for configuring an HP iPAQ handheld device with a high-security authentication protocol
vary between product series and the selected protocol. Other affecting issues are ROM releases,
operating systems, and protocol-specific requirements, to name a few.
The following instructions are intended as a roadmap to help you get started. Actual implementation
may require additional steps, consultation with ISPs, network administrators, and implementation
direction from third-party software companies such as Cisco Systems. Assistance may also be
obtained from the HP web site (
Perform the following steps to set up an HP supported authentication protocol on an HP iPAQ
Pocket PC h5400 series with Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 handheld device:
1. Follow steps 1 through 7 in the preceding section, "
2. Select either 64-bit or 128-bit encryption from the Wireless Encryption (WEP) drop-down list.
3. Select whether they keys are alphanumeric or hexadecimal.
4. Enter the key in the appropriate field.

1. On the Today screen, tap Start > iPAQ Wireless > iPAQ WLAN, or tap the iPAQ WLAN icon in the
lower right corner of the Today screen.
2. Tap the Status button.
3. Tap the Advanced button.
4. Tap the Rescan button to begin the search.
5. Tap OK to close the window.
Linking to an access point
Perform the following steps to link to an access point:
1. On the Today screen, tap Start > iPAQ Wireless > iPAQ WLAN, or tap the iPAQ WLAN icon in the
lower right corner of the Today screen.
2. Tap the Status button.
3. Tap the Advanced button.
4. Select a site from the Access Point ID drop-down list.
5. Tap OK.
