AMD64/EM64T on HP xw9300, xw8400, xw6400, xw8200 and
xw6200 may fail to install

DESCRIPTION

If your system meets all of the criteria listed in the "scope" section below, the anaconda installer may
hang or produce a traceback error indicating that it cannot allocate memory.

SCOPE

HP xw9300, xw8400, xw6400, xw8200, or xw6400 workstations with 1GB or more of memory

RESOLUTION

For Installs from CD media HP recommends that you boot the install kernel with the additional boot
option "mem=512M" by following these steps:
Start the install as you normally would.
1.
When the Red Hat Enterprise Linux install boot prompt "boot: " is displayed
Type "linux mem=512M"
2.
Continue with the install as usual.
3.
For Installs using NFS (NFS Installs, PXE boots) or if the CD install is not successful with the procedure
outlined above see Red Hat's Knowledge Base for the necessary fix.

DESCRIPTION
Audio on the workstation listed in the SCOPE section cannot be heard because the internal speakers
are muted by default.
NOTE: Headphones via the front jack or rear jack are not muted, so no changes are needed to hear
audio from the headphones.

HP xw6400, xw8400 Workstations running Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS 4 Update 3 [x86 and
AMD64/EM64T]
RESOLUTION
To hear audio from the internal speakers, perform the following steps:
From the command line, type 'alsamixer' and unmute the Mono slider.

Or from the panel, select Red Hat -> Sound & Video -> Volume Control, unmute Mono
2.
and adjust the slider upwards.
To adjust audio from the front or back headphones, perform the following:
NOTE: The volume for the front or back headphones jack is controlled by the Front slider.
From the command line, start 'alsamixer' unmute and adjust the appropriate slider.
