To improve performance of the 16-bit Wide Ultra SCSI channel, the new generation of HP
FastRAID is available as an option. Both HP V
of supporting the HP FastRAID2 Accessory Kit. When installing HP FastRAID2, please
refer to the Installation and Configuration Guide supplied with the HP FastRAID2
Accessory Kit for instructions.
WARNING HP FastRAID2 and HP FASTRAID1 software (BIOS, drivers and HP
Raid device manager) are NOT compatible.

The HP FastRAID2 solution (or Accessory Kit if ordered after purchase) includes an
Adaptec ARO2 PCI RAIDport adapter and five disks containing configuration utilities,
drivers and the CI/O Array Management software. Note that the CI/O Array Manager is
also known as the HP RAID Manager, and contains the ArrayConfig utility imbedded in it.
The Accessory Kit, along with the RAIDport connector and firmware on the system board
of the PC Workstation, provide the components necessary to implement FastRAID2.
The ARO2 adapter increases the performance of the PC Workstation's hard drives by
accelerating data storage and retrieval. Part of this hardware acceleration is due to the
read and write cache options available with the ARO2 adapter. Using the write cache,
when the memory is flushed to the SCSI devices (hard drives), reduces the idle time is to
one tenth of the idle time without the FastRAID2 option. For certain applications, read
caching (i.e. pre-emptive reading and caching of sequential sectors of data, to have ready to
use if needed) can accelerate operations.
