VOLUME CONTROL AND OUTPUT

USING AS A SOURCE (CONNECTING TO A PREAMPLIFI ER, ETC.)
When using the DMS-650 as a source unit and connecting to a preamplifier, integrated amplifier, or receiver, you can set
the volume to MASTER or INDEPENDENT Mode. Master setting adjusts volume output of the DMS-650 the same for all
source inputs. The Independent Volume setting allows for adjusting the volume independently for each input source of the
DMS-650. This is useful for when some sources have a much greater or lesser output then others, allowing for volume
matching of input sources. See PURE AUDIO MODE below.
NOTE: The default Reset Master Volume setting is -30.0 and the default Reset Independent Volume setting is -13.5
USING AS A DIGITAL PREAMPLIFIER (CONNECTING DIRECT LY TO AN AMPLIFIER)
When using the DMS-650 as a digital preamplifier (connecting it directly to a power amplifier input), you can select either
MASTER or INDEPENDENT based on your personal preferences. However, if using the DMS-650 as a digital preamplifier, be
sure to turn on the DMS-650 BEFORE turning on your amplifier. Then, set the DMS-650 volume to - 30.0 (or mute). Only
after being sure the volume is turned down, turn on your power amplifier and gradually turn up the DMS-650 volume to an
appropriate listening level. Otherwise, extreme damage may occur to your amplifier, speakers, or hearing. Reverse each
step when turning off and repeat each sequence for each listen session.

MAXIMUM OUTPUT VOLTAGE

The maximum output voltage of the DMS-650 is 3.0 volts when volume is set to +8.0. Check the preferred maximum input
voltage of your preamplifier, Integrated amplifier, receiver, or amplifier. If 2.0 volts is required, set DMS volume to 0.0.
Check with your audio products manufacturer to be sure. Typically, 3.0 is the recommended setting for best sound quality.

PURE AUDIO MODE

For the greatest sonic benefit when using the DMS-650 as a source, it is recommended to set and leave the volume to +8.0,
controlling subsequent volume via your preamplifier, integrated amplifier, or receiver. Doing so will activate PURE AUDIO
MODE. Pure Audio Mode bypass all digital volume control circuits and provides the best, purest audio path for exceptional
sound. For all practical purposes this can only be achieved when using the DMS-650 as a source and NOT as a preamplifier.
When using the DMS-650 as a preamplifier it is unlikely you will ever have the volume maxed out at +8.0 directly feeding
your amplifier. This is yet another reason to consider using component preamplifier when using a separate power amplifier.
