User Maintenance

A dirty print head can cause poor printing. Use the procedure below to keep
the print head clean.
Important!
• Use a cotton swab or some other soft object to clean the print head. We
recommend use of a very fine cotton swab for cleaning.
• Note that you will need to turn on the printer in order to open the disc tray
and front cover. Be sure to turn off the printer after opening the disc tray and
front cover.
• If you are using the optionally available AC adaptor to power the printer,
disconnect the AC adaptor from the printer after opening the front cover.

1.
Press the printer's [ button to turn it on.
2.
Press the printer's
button.
• This causes the disc tray to open part way.
3.
Carefully pull out the disc tray the rest of the way.
• If there is a disc on the tray, remove it.
4.
Open the front cover.
• If the printer has an ink ribbon cassette loaded in it, remove the cassette.
5.
Press ] to turn off the printer.
6.
Carefully wipe the surface of the print head with a cotton swab moistened
with alcohol.
• Instead of alcohol, you can also use commercially available cassette
deck head cleaning liquid.
Lightly run the tip of
the cotton swab back
and forth along the
depression in the
print head.
Cleaning the Exterior of the Printer
Use a soft cloth dampened with plain water to wipe the exterior of the
printer. Wring all excess moisture from the cloth before wiping. Never
use benzene, alcohol, thinner, or other volatile agents to clean the exte-
rior of the printer. Such agents can damage the plastic case.
