G2 MIDI
G2 has both Midi in and Midi out it can control amplifiers, pedals and external rack gear fitted
with a MIDI input, as well as can be controlled by an external MIDI device with the ability to send
patch change info. Your G2 sends out a Midi word automatically every time you press a foot
switch.
Midi-Out.
(pre software upgrade)
The MIDI codes your G2 sends out are
standard program patch change
messages on Midi Ch1
Program change 0 is sent out each time
the G2 drops into Bypass. (Switch
double pressed)
Program change 1 is sent out from foot
switch 1, program change 2 for foot
switch 2 and so on up to foot switch 14.
If you have pressed the engage button
so that your G2 is in its upper Level, the
output Midi codes will change, just as
you would expect, to program change
16 to 30; 16 being the bypass for the
upper bank.
Now, there is an exception to the above
which has been implemented so that
two G2 systems can talk to each other.
MIDI OUT on Stomp Box Mode
When the Midi code is sent from a foot switch which is in stomp mode, it will send out the same
program change as described above; however, this time the code will be sent out on Midi CH2.
You can turn off this feature and set all outputs to midi CH1 if required, see Special functions.
This is particularly handy if you want to add presets from an external MIDI device ON TOP of
presets using another MIDI device. For example, if I'm using an amplifier with MIDI in, and I'm
sending the amplifier MIDI out messages in channel one to change the channels, I can then add
presets from my Strymon Timeline to that sound in STOMP BOX mode without changing the
channel of the amplifier. All I need to do is set the Strymon to receive on MIDI channel 2 and G2
takes care of the rest
