There's also a Trig/Gate/Loop switch to determine the trigger behavior of EG1:
Trig means that the envelope will complete its full cycle once a key is pressed,
even if it's held down.
Gate means that the Delay and Attack will proceed normally, but will then sustain
until the key is released and then go through Release. This is how the original
MS-20 behaves.
Loop means that EG1 will go through its whole cycle without sustaining, and at
the end of the Release stage, will retrigger the envelope at the start of the Decay
stage. This lets EG1 act as a sort of second MG with a waveshape defined by the
envelope stages.
EG2 has five stages:
Hold Time seems at first to be placed a little bit strangely on the front panel – the
Hold stage actually comes between Sustain and Release, and is an added time
that the envelope stays at the Sustain level between when the key is released
and when the Release stage begins. This can turn the envelope into a sort of
extra gate signal. (Classic 0 ms to 29.800 sec)
Attack Time is the time that the sound will take to reach its maximum volume
once we start the envelope. (Classic 24 ms to 14.000 sec; Modern 1 ms to
20.000 sec)
Decay Time is the time that the sound will take to drop from its maximum volume
to the Sustain level. (Classic 32 ms to 16.000 sec; Modern 1 ms to 20.000 sec)
Sustain Level is the volume level that the sound will reach when a key is held
down long enough to get through the Attack and Sustain.
Release Time is the time that the sound will take to drop back to silence once we
stop the envelope. (Classic 30 ms to 25.000 sec; Modern 1 ms to 20.000 sec)
EG2 is by default routed to main VCA (volume) aswell as both filter Cutoff modulation.
Note that the Attack, Decay, and Release times have two ranges: Classic, as on the original
MS-20, and Modern, with a wider range. These are selected with the Classic/Modern switch.
Also note that in Modern mode, Hold Time is replaced by Decay Curve, which adjusts the
curve shape of the Decay stage.
The control range is -20.0 to 20.0 with a default of -4.00. At negative values, the Decay is
sharply percussive, most easily heard when the Sustain is set very low. At positive values,
the Decay is gentler – in fact, at very high values, it's essentially flat, creating a 'two-step'
effect where a steady level at a fixed Decay time drops to the Sustain level.

5.4.3. Cutoff Mod Sidechain and Amplifier Modulation

The original MS-20 used EG2 for its loudness envelope, had no modulation options. In fact,
it had no controls at all for its voltage-controlled amplifier ( VCA ) – just a front panel graphic
showing where the VCA was in the signal chain. Naturally, we don't like wasted space on
our virtual instruments' front panels, so we've added a couple of cool new features to KORG
MS-20 V!
Cutoff Mod Sidechain allows for dynamic control of the Cutoff Frequency of both filters by
MIDI velocity data, so notes become brighter as you play harder.
Amplifier Modulation lets the overall level be controlled by the MG or by any CV sent to the
EG2 Sidechain input on the Patch Panel.
