NOTE: This chapter mainly illustrates the removal and replacement procedures on the basis of the server with 8 HDD, because most of the procedures between servers of 8 HDD and 12 HDD are the same.

    System Board Configuration Processor HP ProLiant DL170h Generation 6 Server, with 4 Nodes, supports eight-processor operation. With two processors installed, each Node supports boot functions through the processor installed in processor socket 1. However, if processor 1 fails, the system automatically boots from processor 2 and provides a processor failure message.

  • Page 42 Apply the thermal grease compound to the CPU contact surface. CAUTION: HP recommends using Shin-Etsu X-23-7783D thermal grease compound for your ProLiant server. Apply all the grease to the top of the processor in one of the following patterns to insure even distribution.

CAUTION: Applying too much grease creates a gap between the contact surfaces, significantly reducing the ability of the heat sink to draw out heat.
