Preparation before surgery

Fitting optical accessories for
Leica M844
WARNING
Risk of injury from downward movement of surgical
microscope!
Complete all preparations and adjustments to the stand

before the operation.
Never change the accessories or attempt to rebalance
X
the microscope while it is above the field of operation.
Before re-equipping, always lock the swing arm.
X
After re-equipping, always rebalance the microscope on
X
the swing arm.
Do not release brakes in an unbalanced state.
X
Before re-equipping during the operation, first swing
X
the microscope away from the operating field.
Before each operation, make sure that the optical
X
components and accessories are sufficiently secured and
cannot move.
Take care that the articulation brakes are tightened and the
swing arm is blocked before you mount accessories to your
Leica M844 (see chapter 7.11.2 and chapter 7.12.4).
Installing the objectives
Tighten the objective to the microscope (right-hand threading).

Fitting the 0° assistant's attachment
The 0° assistant's attachment must be directly attached to
the optics carrier.

Unscrew the clamping screw (1) as far as necessary using a
X
screwdriver.
Insert the 0° assistant's attachment into the dovetail ring.
X
Hold the 0° assistant's attachment in place and tighten the
X
clamping screw.
Do not use a beam splitter in addition to the 0° assistant's
attachment.
Fitting the tube
Release the clamping screw (1) on the dovetail ring of the 0°
X
assistant's attachment and remove the black protective cover.
Carefully insert the second observer tube and tighten the
X
clamping screw.
Fitting eyepieces
Affix the eyepieces with the fixing rings in the tubes.

Fitting the Double Wing
We recommend mounting the longer arm of the Double
Wing on the side of the focus housing in order to achieve
optimal ergonomic conditions.
Unscrew the clamping screw as far as necessary using a
X
screwdriver.
Insert the flange of the Double Wing into the dovetail ring so
X
that the arrow is positioned directly above the clamping screw.
Hold the Double Wing firmly and tighten the clamping screw.
X
We recommend that, for the main surgeon, the UltraLow™
III binocular tube be used in combination with the double
wing. The UltraLow™ III binocular tube offers better
ergonomic conditions.
