If you are installing your lock on a brand new door, a drill is required if there are no holes prepared for lock installation. Use provided template to bore holes on door.

- Page 22 Step 7 INSTALLING INTERIOR SIDE OF LOCK continued Insert 4 AA batteries into the lock by aligning the positive (+) and negative (-) orientation markings on the batteries to the battery chamber. Secure the battery by sliding the cover over the lock and turning the screw clockwise on top until tight.

However, if you find the deadbolt and latchbolt works with your existing strike plate free of any binding or resistance you can use use it.
