10.6 Battery Performance Test
A battery performance test can be carried out in order to either test or restore the battery capacity. Also, the
procedure below will show you how to discharge the battery before transportation.
To determine if the battery is functioning properly, it must first be discharged and then recharged fully. Once
charged, it must be left running in 'Soak test mode' for the observation of the number of samples taken until
the battery is exhausted:
1. Discharge the battery: Switch off the unit and then press Delete/Reset and Stats/2nd Function buttons
simultaneously with the Angle/Read button (single and dual angle Glossmeters) or Angle button (triple
angle Glossmeters).
The Glossmeter will enter 'Soak test mode' in which it automatically takes samples and counts the
number of samples taken. The display will show the total number of samples after every 25 samples.
The instrument will automatically switch off when it detects that the battery is discharged.
If required, to abort the soak test, press and hold the On button.
2. Once the battery has discharged, connect the charger and charge for 16 consecutive hours.
3. Repeat step 1.
4. Repeat step 2.
5. Determine the number of samples the instrument took in step 3 by pressing and holding Delete/Reset
and Stats/2nd Function buttons simultaneously with the Angle/Read button (single and dual angle
Glossmeters) or Angle button (triple angle Glossmeters). The display will show the number of samples
taken. With a fully charged battery in good condition, the instrument should take in the excess of 2000
samples after which the battery will be discharged.
