2.3.6. SIP
N.B. : This service is available as an option on IQOYA *CALL/LE.
The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a communications protocol (RFC 3261) for signaling and controlling
multimedia communication sessions. It is widely used in telecommunications and VoiceOverIP applications.
SIP serves four major purposes
●
SIP allows for defining the user location (i.e. translating from a user's name to their current network
address).
●
SIP provides for features negotiation so that all participants in a session can agree on the features to be
supported among them.
●
SIP is a mechanism for call management for example adding, dropping, or transferring participants.
●
SIP allows for changing features of a session while it is in progress.
