    Non-observance could interrupt the device and any connected systems and plants, or result in their complete failure. Intended use The SLCS safety light curtain may only be used in accordance with its intended purpose as electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE) for securing hazardous areas and dangerous locations.

    ■ Description The SLCS safety light curtain consists of an transmitter and a receiver. The protection field is formed by infrared light beams sent from the transmitter to the receiver. The offset between the individual light beams determines the minimum obstruction size (14, 30, 60 or 90 mm) that can be reliably detected in the entire protection field range.

    Safety Light Curtain SLCS Installation Installation Preparation Safety distance A minimum distance must be maintained between the protection field and the hazardous area to ensure potentially dangerous movements are brought to a stop before there is contact with a person.

If the distance from the safety device is too great, additional safety equipment must be put in place (see illustration below).

    Operating mode A or operating mode B must be configured both on the transmitter and on the receiver. The modes are used to prevent mutual interference from adjacent SLCS safety light curtains (see chapter 6.2). The operating mode is selected by connecting the A/B mode input. When connected to 0 V (recommended) or an open input, the safety light curtain operates in mode A.

The test function is triggered by opening the contact. Note! During operation without a startup/restart interlock, the test time must be limited to 150 ms.

    Safety Light Curtain SLCS Installation A/B mode input The A/B mode input is located both on the transmitter and on the receiver. If the input is open or connected to 0 V, the safety light curtain operates in mode A. The inputs must be connected to the supply voltage to switch to mode B.
  • Page 22 Safety Light Curtain SLCS Installation Relay monitor input Auxiliary contacts on switching elements connected downstream of the OSSDs can be connected to the relay monitor input. This allows these elements to be monitored. Use NC contacts (see chapter 5.4.4). All monitored switching elements must be connected in series.
