PERATION
PSK operation is easily accomplished on the FT
transceiver, as in the illustration.

Before operation can com-
mence, some basic setup proce-
dures must be performed, using
the Menu, to configure your ra-
dio for the desired data mode.
1. Press the [ V/M ] button once, if necessary, to enter the
"Memory" mode (the "
display.
2. Press and hold in the [ BAND/MCH ] button for two
seconds. The button will glow yellow to signify that
rotation of the [ CLAR ( VFO-B )] knob will allow se-
lection of the memory channel.

3. Memory channels "US-1
grammed at the factory. The permitted frequencies in
the 5 MHz band, and the USB mode, are automati-
cally selected on these channels.
4. When the "transmit" command is received from the
TNC, the FT
5000 transmitter will be engaged. The
DX
microphone input is disabled automatically when trans-
mitting the PSK signal.
Likewise, the TNC "receive" command will cause the
radio to revert to the receive mode.

DVICE
 If you need to adjust the output level from the "DATA
OUT" pin of the PACKET jack (pin 4) on the radio,
use Menu item "072 DATA OUT LVL". To adjust the
level of the signal from the TNC applied to the DATA
IN (pin 1) of the PACKET jack, use Menu item "070
DATA DT GAIN".

 During PSK operation via the rear panel PACKET
jack, the front panel MIC jack is cut off, so you won't
have a "live microphone" problem during data opera-
tion.
 Set the PSK sub carrier frequency of the TNC to 1.5
kHz.

OTE
If you anticipate making data transmissions of longer than
a few minutes, we recommend that you use the [ RF PWR ]
knob to reduce the transmitter power to 1/3 ~ 1/2 of its
normal maximum.
