4 . 2 INSTALLATION
WARNING
N e v e r at t e mpt to i n stal l or r e m o v e any boards
b e f o r e turni n g off the p o w e r to the bus, a n d all
rel a t e d ext e rnal p o w e r supplies.
1 . Turn p o w e r to t h e V M E b u s c a r d c a g e to O F F a n d d i s c o n n e c t t h e p o w e r cable.
2 . Configure b o t h t h e C P U a n d I/O c a r d s for t h e parti c ul a r appl i c at i o n. All information
o n thi s i s i n C h a p t e r s 2 and 3.
CAUTION
D O N O T u s e e x c e s s i v e f o rce or p r e s s u r e to engage
t h e c o n n e c t o r s . If the board d o e s not properly
c o n n e c t wi t h the b a c k p l a n e , r e m o v e the module
a n d i n spect all c o n n e c t o r s and gui d e sl o ts for
p o s s i b l e d a m a g e or obstructions.
3 . Install t h e X V M E - 6 8 2 i n to t h e c a r d c a g e by cent e ri n g t h e b o a r d ( s ) o n t h e pl a sti c guides
i n the sl o ts and pushi n g the c a r d s sl o wl y t o ward the rear of the c h a s s i s until the
c o n n e c t o r s e n g a g e (the c a r d s s h o u l d sl i d e freel y i n the pl a sti c guides).
4 . Secure t h e b o a r d ( s ) to t h e c h a s s i s b y ti g hteni n g t h e t w o m a c h i n e s c r e w s at t h e t o p and
b o t t o m of e a c h board.
5 . Attach the short ri b bon cabl e provi d ed to the rear of the V M E b u s P 2 backplane,
c o n n e c t i n g the sl o t cont a i n i n g the C P U m o d u l e wi t h the sl o t contai n i n g the I/O
module.
6 . Connect t h e di s k dri v es to t h e front of t h e I/O m o d u l e , i n a c c o r d a n c e wi t h t h e Figure
4-2.
