7 INITIAL OPERATION
Before the first start-up assure that:
The machine incorporating the gear unit complies with the provisions of the "Machinery
Directive" 2006/42/EC and other applicable safety legislations.
The plant in which it is installed complies with all applIicable directives, especially those regarding
health and safety at work.
There are no visible leaks from the shaft seals nor damages of any nature to the gear unit.
The gear unit must not be used in areas and environments:
With highly corrosive and/or abrasive vapours, smoke or dust
In direct contact with loose food products.
8 MAINTENANCE
Before working on the gear unit make sure the power is switched off and secure it from
being switched on again accidentaly. Secure the machine against unintentional moving
(e.g. lowering of lifted load).
Mark off the area around the unit working on.
Inform nearby co-workers before starting to work on machine parts so they can help you in case
of an accident.
The manufacturer declines all liability for injury and damage to components due to the use of non-
original spare parts and non- routine work without the express prior authorisation of the manufacturer.
8.1 ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
Service schedule to be conducted when commissioning the gear unit and after that with a 500
hours interval:
Check noise and vibration. Excessive vibration or noise can indicate wear of the gear or failure
of bearings.
Check seals for lubricant leaks.
Check the torque of the locking bolt which couples the motor and gearbox shafts. Refer to values
specified in this manual.
Check the torque of the srews which couple the motor with the gear unit housing. Refer to values
specified in this manual.
Clean the gear unit from dust and process waste. Do not use solvents or other products which
are incompatible with the construction material. Do not use high-pressure cleaners to clean the
gear unit.
