The chief benefit provided by out-of-band access capability is that it
allows you to manage your network in the event that the in-band network
communication infrastructure that supports remote communication with
the MicroMMAC-T becomes inoperable.
You can also access LM from an in-band Telnet connection from any
TCP/IP-based node linked to the MicroMMAC-T. The MicroMMAC-T
allows up to four concurrent Telnet sessions with LM. See the
MicroMMAC-T Local Management Guide for information about using
LM.
The CRBRIM-W/T and the MicroSNAC-T accessories each

Remote SNMP Management
The MicroMMAC-T's management agent can collect data on and process
SNMP requests for up to 255 stations on the ring. Cabletron Systems

exploit the MicroMMAC-T's management capabilities:

1.2.3 Firmware Downloads To Flash EEPROM

The MicroMMAC-T is equipped with Flash EEPROM (Electrical
Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory). It stores the operating code
(or firmware image) that is loaded into RAM when the MicroMMAC-T is
powered up or reset. When you want to replace the current image in Flash
EEPROM, you can initiate a download of a new (or preferred) image
from a TFTP/BootP server using the Local Management Flash Download
screen (see the MicroMMAC-T Local Management Guide for
instructions) or any SNMP-compliant remote management application
providing TFTP/BootP-protocol services.
