Use the chart and examples below to determine how
many seeds per acre are planted.
Examples:
Corn
Row spacing 30 inch
Measure 87 ft 1 inch down one row (1/200 acre).
Count kernels; assume 105
105 x 200 - 21,000 seeds per acre.
Repeat count in at least three places in field and average
results.
Soybeans
Row spacing = 15 inch
Measure 34 ft 10 inch down one row (1/1000 acre).
Count kernels; assume 178
178 x 1000 = 178,000 seeds per acre.
Repeat count in at least three places in field and average
the results.
Wheat
Row spacing* - 15 inch
Use the chart on the following page to determine seeds
per foot of row required to provide the desired seeding
rate.
Measure one foot (12 inch) in any row.
Count kernels; assume 29 (29 seeds/ft).
If seed weight is 13,000 seeds/lb, use that line on chart:
-At intersection of 29 and 13,000 read:
-Left scale = 1,000,000 seeds/acre
-Bottom scale = 75 lb/acre
Repeat count in at least three places in the field and
average the results.
*for 30 inch row spacing:
Seed spacing = one half of 15 inch row figure
Seeds/ft = twice 15 inch row figure
