Field Operations and Adjustments Wheel Tread Spacing IMPORTANT: Dual rear wheels are recommended for tractor stability and for load-carrying capacity when the planter is folded. The recommended wheel tread spacing dimensions are listed below. NOTE: Some outer wheels cannot be adjusted to these dimensions.
Field Operations and Adjustments Remote Hydraulic Valve Requirements Three remote valves are required: 3. A third valve will be needed for hydraulic drive and singulation blowers if the PTO pump is not used. 1. One valve controls the frame lift/lower circuit. Minimum available tractor system pressure must be 2.
Field Operations and Adjustments Hydraulic Seeding Monitor Program the ISOBUS planter controller for the crop to be planted. Make sure the radar devise is in the correct position. PLANTER CONTROLS Mount the ISOBUS planter controller console in suitable cab location. Connect the input leads of the monitor to the 12 VDC battery terminals.
Field Operations and Adjustments Test Switch Storage Tube The test switch is stored in a tube in one of several locations, depending on the row unit options. The test switch connector is labeled Test SW. Connect test switch to planter harness. Route harness through hole in storage tube.
Field Operations and Adjustments CONNECTING THE PLANTER TO THE TRACTOR Procedure Back tractor toward planter hitch. WARNING: Stop tractor engine and remove the key and shift to park, or shift to neutral and set brakes before dismounting. IMPORTANT: Clean off hose ends and tractor couplers to remove dirt before making connections.
Field Operations and Adjustments FIG. 6: When the hitches are aligned, install a hitch pin (1) with a minimum diameter of 30 mm (1-1/4 in). Install a pin clip. Install the transport safety chain (2) around the tractor drawbar and connect the hook to the chain. Connect the ISOBUS planter controller harness to the mating console harness.
Field Operations and Adjustments DISCONNECTING THE PLANTER FROM THE TRACTOR WARNING: Because planter has negative hitch weight, park planter only in folded transport position, raised or lowered. FIG. 8: Select a firm, level location to disconnect the planter. To keep the row units off the ground, park the planter in the folded raised transport position with the wing wheels lowered to support the hitch.
Field Operations and Adjustments FRAME CONTROL SYSTEM Control Box Switches FIG. 9: Frame Control Box PLANT/OFF/TRANSPORT Switch: Press switch to PLANT for field operation. Press switch to TRANSPORT for folding the frame. NOTE: To prevent battery drain, make sure that the blue with red wire is wired to the switch side of the tractor key switch.
Field Operations and Adjustments Operating Notes • Planter raises in the folded or unfolded positions without electrical power, but will not lower without it. • Hitch and fold cylinders will not operate without electrical power. • Planter will not lower in the folded or unfolded positions if the PLANT/OFF/TRANSPORT switch is in TRANSPORT position.
Field Operations and Adjustments Folding Procedure Start the tractor engine, release the brakes and shift to neutral. With the PLANT/OFF/TRANSPORT switch in plant and the marker switch off, fully raise the planter using the tractor hydraulic valve. Change the PLANT/OFF/TRANPORT switch to transport, press and hold the tongue height switch.
Field Operations and Adjustments Unfolding Procedure Remove the wheel and tongue cylinder lockup channels. Remove the wing lock pins. Place the pins and lockups in the storage positions. With PLANT/OFF/TRANSPORT switch TRANSPORT and MARKER switch off, start the tractor engine, release the brakes and shift to neutral. Press the WING WHEELS switch, then lower the wing wheels using the tractor hydraulic valve.

Field Operations and Adjustments TRANSPORTING THE PLANTER Preparation • Make sure the planter is connected according to the procedures outlined. • Fold the planter as described on the previous pages. • Install the wheel lift cylinder and hitch cylinder lockups. •...
Field Operations and Adjustments FIELD General Use the information as a checklist of actions to be performed whenever using the planter. Before Entering the Field Check the following items and make sure preparation is • Operate the meter blower for a short length of time. according to instructions.
Field Operations and Adjustments Set the meter air pressure as follows: Check the chemical application and readjust if needed. a. Set the seed cart plenum pressure between 20 to 25 Once the tests show everything is operating as desired, inches of water proceed with planting.
Field Operations and Adjustments MARKERS Operation The marker cylinders are connected to a tractor remote hydraulic circuit that also operates the tongue height cylinder. A hydraulically operated sequence valve allows the markers to alternately raise and lower each time the tractor control lever is moved.
Field Operations and Adjustments Stop Storage and Shear Bolts FIG. 16: Marker Base Stop Storage Shear Bolt The markers are protected with a 5/16 x 2-3/4 inch Grade 5 shear bolt and locknut. NOTE: Fully engage nut threads on bolt, but it is not necessary to tighten the nut.
Field Operations and Adjustments SEED RECOMMENDATIONS Seed must be clean, not damaged, the same size, and have a high germination test. If low germination seed must be used, adjust the seed rate accordingly. See the seed supplier for recommendations. IMPORTANT: To obtain best singulation and uniform spacing, round corn is preferred.
Field Operations and Adjustments Wheat Conversion Chart FIG. 17: Use the chart to convert seed population from pounds per acre to actual count and vice-versa. Seed spacing can also be determined: • Seeds per foot • Seed spacing in inches Example: Assume 16,000 seeds/lb with a desired seeding rate of 2,000,000 seeds/acre.
