Field Operations and Adjustments FRAME CONTROL SYSTEM Control Box Switches NOTE: There is not any functions at this time for the Auxiliary switch. FIG. 14: For convenience, mount frame control box where folding and unfolding procedures can be observed while using the box. Route the output wire harness to the rear of the tractor.
Field Operations and Adjustments Operating Notes IMPORTANT: Planter cannot be lowered when folded for transport. Damage to tires and/or row units can result. • Planter raises in folded or unfolded positions without electrical power, but will not lower without electrical power.
Field Operations and Adjustments FOLDING AND UNFOLDING General IMPORTANT: Planter must be raised to full transport height before folding. Damage to tires and/or row units can result. Whenever folding or unfolding the planter, observe the following: • A firm, level surface permits for easiest operation. •...
Field Operations and Adjustments FIG. 16: The wings are folded and engaged into the hitch latch (1) and secured by the wing latch (2). The planter is now folded, raised and ready for transport. Make sure the wing latches are engaged before transporting the planter.

Field Operations and Adjustments MARKERS Operation The marker cylinders are connected to a tractor remote hydraulic circuit that also operates the tongue height and frame fold cylinders. A hydraulically operated sequence valve permits the markers to alternately raise and lower each time the tractor control lever is moved.
Field Operations and Adjustments Marker Position Switch FIG. 22: As the planter frame hitch cylinder extends, the marker position switch (1) opens, disconnecting the marker raise/lower circuit. When the frame is unfolded and the hitch is level with the frame, the position switch is closed, permitting normal marker operation.
Additional row units spaced halfway between the basic planter row units are called split row units. With split rows, the model 9831 is used as a 31-row, 15 inch planter. The split row units are adjusted slightly rearward of the basic row units, but basic operation of all row units are identical.
Field Operations and Adjustments FIG. 25: When planting narrow row (15 inch) crops, the split row units are lowered and operating like the other row units. When not is use, the split row units are locked up in the raised position with the seed and chemical meter clutches disengaged and the air supply stopped.
Field Operations and Adjustments With the planter fully lowered to the ground, pull lockout lever forward against spring pressure. Raise split row unit until lockup snaps forward (disengages), then lower unit to the ground. Remove the 45 degree elbow from the air manifold and remove the plastic cap plug in the Y connector and install the elbow.
