4.2 Headers and Connectors

Fan Headers
There are six fan headers on the motherboard. These are 4-pin fan headers; pins 1-3 are
backward compatible with traditional 3-pin fans. The onboard fan speeds are controlled by
Thermal Management via IPMI. When using Thermal Management setting, please use all
3-pin fans or all 4-pin fans.

Speaker/Buzzer
On the JD1 header, pins 1-4 are for the speaker and pins 3-4 are for the buzzer. If you wish
to use an external speaker, connect its cable to pins 1-4.

TPM Header
The JTPM1 header is used to connect a Trusted Platform Module (TPM). A TPM is a security
device that enhances system performance as well as data security by offering encryption and
authentication to installed hard drives. It enables the motherboard to deny access if the TPM
associated with the hard drive is not installed in the system.

Front Accessible Audio Header
A 10-pin audio header on the motherboard allows you to use the onboard sound chip (Realtek
ALC888S-VD2) for audio functions. Connect an audio cable to the this header to use the
feature. The pitch of each pin is 2.54mm.
