CENTER & WING GEARBOX
The gearboxes should not require additional lubricant unless the box is cracked or a seal is leaking. It is
recommended that the oil level plug be removed after every 8 to 10 hours of operation and oil added until it
runs out hole. Wing gearbox oil level plug is a square head pipe plug located on lower right rear side of main
box. Fill plug is in top of main housing. Oil level plug is a square head pipe plug located on lower left side of
input shaft cover plate. Fill plug is above shaft in same front cover.
Recommended lubricant is NLGI 000 Grease.

Center Gearbox

The center gearbox uses a set of helical bevel gears at a ratio of 4.5:1 to drive the small centre blade set to
2430 RPM. This gearbox does not contain oil in its lower section. Instead, a permanently sealed bearing is
used to support the output shaft. A secondary seal is placed below the sealed bearing to ensure that water
cannot get into the box. The space between the lower seal and the secondary bearing is filled with grease. This
grease pool my heat up and a small amount may leak out. A small amount of leakage is normal. The main oil
seal is well inside the gearbox. If oil is actually leaking from the lower seal in any quantity it would indicated that
four seals have failed, two oil seals and the two seals on the bearing.
The lower bearing runs in its own grease supply. It
has two double lip contact seals on the bearing to
hold in the grease supply.
When reassembling the gearbox make sure to fill
the cavity between the lower seal and the lower
bearing with grease. Use NLGI #2 Grease. Mnt-R-

Do not over-fill. If Gearboxes are filled above Test Plug Level, pressure under working
conditions may cause the Grease Seals to leak.
