7 DAB+ (digital radio) function
7.1 What are DAB+ and DAB+ Cable?
DAB+ is a new digital format through which crystal clear sound with no noise can
be heard. In contrast to conventional analogue radio stations, DAB+ can be used to
broadcast multiple stations on one and the same frequency. This is referred to as
an ensemble or multiplex. An ensemble is comprised of the radio station, as well as
several service components or data services which are broadcast individually by the

Furthermore, the DIGITRADIO 10 C can also receive DAB+ stations via the cable
connection. More and more cable network providers are feeding DAB+ stations into
their cable network. Ask your cable network provider whether DAB+ stations can
already be received at your location. To receive DAB+ cable stations, connect the
antenna connection of the DIGITRADIO 10 C to your cable connection socket and
perform a station search.
7.1.1 Data compression
By doing so, digital radio takes advantage of the properties of human hearing.
The human ear does not detect sounds that are below a certain minimum volume.
Data below the absolute threshold of hearing can therefore be filtered out. This is
