3. Overview of the Equotip 3

The Equotip 3 is typically used for testing the hardness of metallic surfaces. The tester mea-
sures the Leeb hardness HL, employing the Leeb rebound method. As a result of its compact
design, measurements can be carried out quickly, on the spot and in any position and direction.
Conversions of the determined HL hardness are provided to different hardness scales, Brinell
(HB), Vickers (HV), Rockwell (HRB, HRC) and Shore (HS), as well as to tensile strength (Rm).

3.1. Application examples

• fully documented hardness tests on fully assembled machines or steel and cast
constructions, as well as on small parts and awkward part geometries
• testing of metallic work pieces when the indentation should be as small as possible
• quality control measurements for quick determination of a heat treatment condition
• fast testing of measuring points to examine the change of hardness over large areas
• automated testing applications
Danger: Other applications could be dangerous. The manufacturer is not liable
for damage caused by improper use or incorrect operation.

3.2. Product versions, components and accessories

Equotip 3 indicating device
• instrument with all the necessary hardness testing functions incl. extended statistics
• large memory for storage of ~ 100'000 measurement values
• configuration of user profiles with customized permission settings
• communication with PC or printing of data directly via USB, Ethernet or RS 232
• Equolink 3 PC software for documented testing
Equotip 3 with Equotip 3 impact devices
• optimized testing of diverse metallic materials and sample geometries using a variety of
impact device types
• testing in the original Leeb hardness scales with highest accuracy and repeatability
• conversion of hardness to various scales (HRC, HRB, HRA, HV, HB, HS) and tensile
strength for steel (Rm)
• testing of special materials using customer-specific hardness conversions
Equotip 3 with SVP 40 probe
• semi-automatic impact device
• rapid checking and evaluation of the wedging of stator windings, i.e. of seating and
regularity, or of the homogeneity of metal hardness
Equotip 3 Automation Package
• remote control of the Equotip 3 indicating device
• integration of hardness tests into quality management systems and in (semi-) automated
testing environments
Equotip test blocks
• verify the correct functioning of Leeb impact devices on test blocks calibrated in the
genuine Leeb scales
