ton. Trip the breaker and note reclose 1 dead time timing does not start to countdown.
Apply rated dc voltage to the external reclose initiate (EXT. RI) input. The recloser
starts reclosure 1 and energizes the IN_PROGRESS relay. The MMI displays the
"Reclosure 1" dead time countdown. When it expires, the close relay contact closes
the breaker, the reset timer counts down and the relay returns to "READY".
a.6
Check of "52b and 3RI" Initiation. Note: Setting the reclose function to respond to
the breaker being open AND a reclose initiate input, is useful in preventing the break-
er from reclosing when the circuit breaker is being opened manually. Change the
"Recl 1" setting to "52b and 3RI"and return to "READY" by pressing the RESET push-
button. Trip the breaker and note the reclose 1 dead time timer does not start to
countdown. Apply rated dc voltage to the EXT. RI input. The recloser now starts with
the first reclosure and closes the IN_PROGRESS output contact. The MMI displays
the "Reclosure 1" dead time countdown and the timer setting. When it expires, the
close relay contact closes the breaker and the reset process is started. During the
"Reset", the MMI displays the Reset countdown and the reset timer setting. Since the
52b input has been removed, the reset process will successfully complete in the re-
turn to "READY" state. Check that the reclosure returns to "READY" and that the
IN_PROGRESS relay is de-energized.
a.7
Check of Hold Input. Change the "Recl 1" setting to "52b only" and return to
"READY" by pressing the RESET push-button. Trip the breaker and note reclose 1
dead time timing begins. Apply rated dc voltage to the HOLD input during the reclos-
ing dead time the countdown stops. Remove the voltage from the HOLD input and
note the count down continues. When it expires, the close relay contact closes the
breaker, the reset timer counts down and the relay returns to "READY".
a.8
Check of 52a Input and 52a/Mancls Logic. Change the "52a/Mancls" setting to
"Yes, 52a" and return to "READY" by pressing the RESET push-button. Apply rated
dc voltage to the 52a input. The relay should remain in "READY" mode. Trip the
breaker and the relay will immediately go to "LOCKOUT" with the message
"52a = 52b", the LOCKOUT relay is energized and the front panel LOCKOUT LED
lights. Note: If 52a input is removed such that neither 52a nor 52b input is present, or
if 52a is in the same state as 52b, the relay reaction and message are the same as
previously described in this paragraph. Remove the 52a input and close the breaker.
Change the "52a/Mancls" setting to "Manual Close" and return to "READY" by press-
ing the RESET push-button. Apply rated dc voltage to the 52a input. The close relay
contact should close the breaker with no delay.
a.9
Check of Failed Reclose Logic. Change the "52a/Mancls" setting to "No, Disabled"
and return to "READY" by pressing the RESET push-button. Disconnect the CLOSE-
1 output leads from the breaker. Trip the breaker and note reclose 1 dead time timing
begins. When the dead timer times out, the recloser proceeds to the "Timing Fail
Recl" timer. When this timer expires the relay goes to "LOCKOUT" with the message
"Failed Reclose". The FAILED RECLOSE LED as well as the LOCKOUT LED will
light, both FAILED RECLOSE and LOCKOUT output relays will be energized. Recon-
nect the CLOSE-1 output leads and manually reset the breaker. After the reset timer
