DETAILED EVALUATION TESTS WITH BREAKER EMULATION
a.1
Input Under Test
"DR LOCK" (Drive to Lockout)
"HOLD" (Freeze Reclosing)
"EXT. RI" (External Reclose Initiate)
Reconnect close relay output leads. With the white switch positioned on RECLOSE,
press the SELECT push-button and note that the mode display cycles through the
display modes. Release the push-button when the SET mode is indicated. Set all the
settings to the values given in Table 2-7.
Connect the REL 301/302 per Figure 5-4 I.L. 40-386.1. With the front panel, white
switch in the PROTECT position, select the SET mode and set the protection accord-
ing to Table 5-4 (REL 301) or 5-5 (REL 302).
Press the RESET push-button to change the display to "READY". If "LOCKOUT" is
displayed instead of "READY", there is a problem and its cause appears on the sec-
ond line of the display.
Apply a fault and note the following (refer to I.L. 40-386.1 paragraph 5.1.4):
The protection should trip the breaker and reclosing starts with the first reclosure, en-
ergizes the IN_PROGRESS output contact and displays the reclosure 1 dead time
countdown. When it expires, the close relay contacts close the breaker and the reset
process is entered. Check that the reclosure returns to "READY" after resetting, and
that the IN_PROGRESS contact is de-energized.
Apply the fault as in b.4, above but this time during the reset, re-apply the fault. The
relay should perform the second reclosure, followed by a reset. In that reset phase,
apply the fault again and the relay should go to "LOCKOUT" with the indication "Max
Reclosures". The IN PROGRESS contact should be de-energized, and the LOCK-
OUT contact and LED energized.
Close the breaker and note that after the reset time, the relay returns to "READY"
mode.
All inputs require rated dc voltage.
Various control inputs are required for the breaker emulation type testing. Verification
of functions such as reclose initiation by "52b Only", DRIVE TO LOCKOUT and
HOLD require voltage to be applied to the inputs in the proper sequence. This is also
true of breaker auxiliary contact indication which is referred to as "the breaker" posi-
