INSTALLING THE RECLOSER/SYNC-CHECK OPTION
It is recommended that the user of this equipment becomes acquainted with the information in
these instructions and in I.L. 40-386.1 before energizing the REL 301/302 and associated as-
semblies. Failure to observe this precaution may result in damage to the equipment.
All integrated circuits used on the modules are sensitive to and can be damaged by the dis-
charge of static electricity. Electrostatic discharge precautions should be observed when oper-
ating or testing the REL 301/302.
Use the following procedure when separating the inner chassis from the
!
outer chassis; failure to observe this precaution can cause personal injury,
CAUTION
undesired tripping of outputs and component damage.
If the REL 301 or REL 302 was supplied with the Recloser/Sync-Check Option proceed to Sec-
tion 2.2.
a. Unscrew (counter clockwise rotation) the front cover knob and remove cover.
b. Open all FT switches.
DO NOT TOUCH THE OUTER CONTACTS OF ANY FT-10 SWITCH; THEY MAY

c. Release frame latches by pushing the top and bottom (left and right ends for horizontal
mount relay) latches inward towards the center of the relay.
d. Push the center latch on the side of the relay towards the middle of the frame to release the
inner chassis.
e. Slide out the inner chassis.
f.
Mount the Recloser/Synch-check Module in the middle connector on the rear of the micro-
processor module and snap the mounting posts into the appropriate holes on the Power
Supply module. (See Figure 2-3)
g. Reverse procedures a-e above when replacing the inner chassis into the outer chassis.

TEST PLUGS AND FT SWITCHES
Test Plugs are available as accessories. They are inserted into the FT-10 switches for the pur-
pose of System Function Tests. See Section 1.6 for ordering information.

EXTERNAL WIRING
All electrical inputs/outputs are made through the back of the REL 301/302. Figures 2-2 through
2-6 and Table 2-1 illustrate the location of various input/output signals. Additional Figures 2-4
and 2-5 show alternative connections for the synchronism voltage input. The vertical REL 301/
