tion in the text. (Trip the breaker - 52b input, voltage applied; close the breaker - 52b
input, no voltage applied, 52a voltage applied). An auxiliary relay, which is electrically
operated and reset, can simulate the functions of the circuit breaker and the circuit
breaker position indication contacts (52a and 52b). Discussion that follows is based
on using a breaker simulator using CLOSE-1 output to close the breaker. Some out-
puts should be monitored to verify logic operation and will be noted. All additional
connections will be suggested in the test procedure. Refer to Figures 2-2 and 2-6 for
terminal connection details.
With the front panel, white switch in the RECLOSE position, press the RESET push-
button to change the display to "READY". If "LOCKOUT" is displayed instead of
"READY", there is a problem and its cause appears on the second line of the display
(e.g. "52b Closed").
Check of 52b Initiation. Trip the breaker simulator (apply rated dc voltage to the 52b
input) and note the recloser starts with the first reclosure and closes the
IN_PROGRESS output contact. The MMI displays the "Reclosure 1" dead time time
countdown and the timer setting. When it expires, the close relay contact closes the
breaker, removing voltage from the 52b input, and the reset process is started. During
the "Reset", the MMI displays the reset countdown and the reset timer setting. Since
the 52b input has been removed, the reset process will successfully complete in the
return to "READY" state. Check that the reclosure returns to "READY" and that the
IN_PROGRESS contact is opened.
Check of 52b Initiation for Reclose 2. Change the setting of "Recl 2" to "52b or
3RI". Trip the breaker simulator (apply rated dc voltage to the 52b input) and during
the reset process, re-trip the breaker. The IN_PROGRESS output contact will close
and remain closed. The relay will skip the remaining reset time and begin the second
reclosure dead time count down. During the dead time count down close the breaker
(remove dc voltage from the 52b input). Since the 52b input has been removed, the
reset process will successfully complete and return to "READY" state. Check that the
reclosure returns to "READY" and that the IN_PROGRESS relay is de-energized.
Check of Lockout for Unsuccessful Reclose. Trip the breaker simulator (apply rat-
ed dc voltage to the 52b input) but during the reset process, re-trip the breaker. The
relay will skip the remaining reset time and begin the second reclosure dead time
count down. In the second reclosure reset phase, re-trip the breaker and the relay will
skip the remaining reset time and go directly to "LOCKOUT" with the indication "Max
Reclosures". The IN_PROGRESS relay is de-energized, the LOCKOUT relay is en-
ergized and the front panel LOCKOUT LED lights.
Close the breaker and note that the reset process begins. During the "Lockout Re-
set", the MMI displays the Reset countdown and the reset timer setting. After a
successful reset, the relay returns to "READY". "Lockout Reset" timer setting is the
"Reset Time" setting.
Check of External RI Input. Change the "Recl 1" setting to "3RI only", change the
"Recl 1 RB" setting to "No" and return to "READY" by pressing the RESET push-but-
