5 Functional Description
The TIG welding torch is part of a welding system. When supplied with appropriate operating
resources, they produce an arc for welding. In TIG welding, a tungsten electrode and an inert
gas are used. The molten pool and the arc are protected by the inert gas from atmospheric
interferences. The collet body or gas diffuser is used to transmit current to the tungsten electrode.
The ignition of the arc depends on the type of power supply and will therefore not be described
any further. The cable assembly serves as supply line and includes all connection elements.
