6 Putting into operation

6.1 Equipping the torch

The functioning welding torch system MIG/MAG comprises the following
components:
• Torch neck with equipment parts and parts subject to wear, Handle tube,
Hose assembly including central plug
All elements together form an operating unit which provides an arc for welding
when supplied with the appropriate operating resources. The welding wire
required for welding is fed by the welding torch system all the way to the
contact tip. The contact tip transmits the welding current to the welding wire,
producing an arc between the welding wire and work-piece. The light arc and
the molten pool are protected by the inert gas (MIG) and the active gas
(MAG).
DANGER
Risk of injury due to unexpected start-up.
For the entire duration of maintenance, servicing, dismounting and repair
work, the following instructions must be adhered to:
• Switch off the power supply.
• Cut off the gas supply.
• Pull the mains plug.
NOTE
• The MIG/MAG welding torches may only be put into operation by
trained personnel.
CAUTION
Risk of injury
Through-hole or puncture caused by electrode tip.
• Do not reach into the danger zone.
• Wear protective gloves.
