PUMP INSTALLATION

Install the pump as shown in Figures 1 & 2. It is impor-
tant that a foot valve be used, or that a check valve be
installed in the horizontal line as near the pump as pos-
sible. A 4" long nipple should be installed in the 1" suc-
tion tapping of the pump. If pump is tank mounted, the
pump discharge is already piped to the tank, and is
ready to be piped to the house service. A base mount-
ed pump can be connected to a vertical tank by means
of a pump-to-tank fittings kit (available from your deal-
er) and necessary piping. A gate valve should be
installed in the line between the pump and tank.
Relief valve must be capable of passing full pump flow
at 75 PSI.
Horizontal Piping
In a horizontal offset installation, elbows and horizontal
piping must be added to complete installation. Be sure
to pitch the pipe up to the pump from the well, in order
to avoid air pockets. When all piping is correctly posi-
tioned, tighten the bolts in the well seal, making sure
the well seal is firmly seated in the casing.
Run the suction piping direct from the jet to the well. If
the suction line has a long horizontal run – (50 ft.) a foot
valve is necessary. A tee with a plug near the pump is
desirable to fill the suction line for the initial prime.

PRIMING THE PUMP

Never run pump dry. Running pump with-
out water may cause pump to overheat, damaging seal
and possibly causing burns to persons handling pump.
Fill pump with water before starting.
Never run pump against closed dis-
charge. To do so can boil water inside pump, causing
hazardous pressure in unit, risk of explosion and possi-
bly scalding persons handling pump.
Remove the priming plug (Key No. 10, Figure 5, Page
8 or Key No. 10, Figure 6, Page 9), and fill the pump
with water. The 4" vertical nipple installed in the suction
tapping enables you to completely fill the pump body
with water, when no line check valve is used. This is
essential for the initial prime. If the horizontal suction
line is over 50 ft. long, prime the piping. Replace prim-
ing plug and start pump. Water should be pumped in a
few minutes, depending upon the depth to water and
the horizontal run of piping. If pump does not prime
after a few minutes of running, repeat the priming
process, until all the air is evacuated from the pump
and piping. Once the pump is in operation, further prim-
ing will not be necessary.
