Troubleshooting

Fault
- Engine will not start
- Starting problems or
deteriorating engine
performance
- No drive when clutch lever is
actuated
- Engine overheating
- Excessive vibration during
operation
- Uneven cut, lawn turns yellow
- Ejection chute blocked

Possible cause
- Motorstop lever is not pressed
- No fuel in tank; fuel line blocked
- Inferior, dirty or old fuel in tank
- Dirty air filter
- Spark plug connector disconnected from
spark plug; ignition lead incorrectly
fastened to connector
- Spark plug dirty or damaged;
incorrect electrode gap
- Engine is flooded due to several starting
attempts
- Mower housing is blocked
- Mowing grass which is too long or too
wet
- Mower housing is blocked
- Dirty air filter
- Dirty spark plug
- Mowing blade is blunt or worn
- Water in fuel tank and carburettor;
carburettor blocked
- Drive cable incorrectly adjusted
- Cooling fins are dirty
- Oil level in engine too low
- Blade bolt is loose.
- Engine mounting is loose
- Blade imbalance due to incorrect
re-sharpening or to deformation
- Mowing blade is blunt or worn
- The rate of feed is too high in relation to
the cutting height
- Mowing blade is worn
- Mowing grass which is too long or too wet
Remedy
- Press motorstop lever to handlebar
- Top up fuel, clean fuel line
- Always use fresh, good quality fuel,
normal unleaded petrol; clean
carburettor
- Clean air filter (see engine
instruction manual)
- Connect spark plug connector;
check connection between ignition
lead and connector
- Clean or replace spark plug; adjust
electrode gap (see engine
instruction manual)
- Remove spark plug and dry; pull
starter cable repeatedly with the
spark plug removed (throttle lever in
STOP position)
- Clean mower housing (disconnect
spark plug connector before
cleaning)
- Work at appropriate cutting height
and mowing speed for mowing
conditions
- Clean mower housing (disconnect
spark plug connector before
cleaning)
- Clean air filter (see engine
instruction manual)
- Clean spark plug
- Re-sharpen or replace mowing
blade
- Empty fuel tank, clean fuel line and
carburettor
- Re-adjust drive cable
(see instruction manual)
- Clean cooling fins
- Top up engine oil (see "Fuel and
engine oil" in instruction manual)
- Tighten blade bolt
- Tighten engine fastening bolts
- Re-sharpen (balance) or replace
blade
- Re-sharpen or replace mowing
blade
- Reduce the advance speed and/or
select the proper cutting height
- Replace the mowing blade
- Work at appropriate cutting height
and mowing speed for mowing
conditions
