13. FUEL TANK AND FILTER
INSPECTION/CLEANING
 WARNING
Gasoline is highly flammable and explosive.
You can be burned or seriously injured when handling fuel.
Stop the engine and let it cool before handling fuel.
Keep heat, sparks, and flame away.
Handle fuel only outdoors.
Wipe up spills immediately.
1. Drain the fuel tank into an approved container, or tip the
engine so the carburetor is up.
2. Slide the tube clip back on the fuel tube.
3. Rotate the fuel tube to help release the tube from the fuel
tank, and then pull the tube from the tank fitting.
NOTICE
Do not pry against the fuel tank with a screwdriver or other
tool, or the fuel tank may become damaged.
4. Remove the fuel strainer from the fuel tube.
5. Inspect the fuel strainer for sediment and other foreign
material. Inspect for tears or other damage.
6. Wash with solvent to clean, and dry thoroughly before
installation. Replace if necessary.
If the fuel strainer is dirty, remove and clean the fuel tank.
7. Insert the fuel strainer into the fuel tank fitting.
8. Connect the fuel tube to the fuel tank fitting.
9. Position the fuel tube clip over the fuel tank fitting.
After assembly, check for fuel leaks.

FUEL TUBE INSPECTION

1. Check the fuel tubes for deterioration, cracks, or signs of
leakage. Replace the fuel tubes if necessary.
2. To replace the fuel tubes, drain the fuel into a suitable
container.
3. Replace the fuel tubes with the correct low permeation fuel
tubes. The fuel tubes must show the
emissions-compliance identification number.
