3.8 Mantel and Facing Requirements
NOTE: Non-combustible material such as brick, tile, marble, or stone
may be placed over the top and side face sections. This material MUST
NOT come in direct contact with fireplace, or cracking of face material
will occur.
CAUTION: If using 'thin' brick, non-combustible facing material, such
as rock board or metal, must be used. Do not attach directly to fireplace
face.
•
Facing material should overlap side framing member
approximately 1/4" to 3/8" (6mm to 10mm).
•
Frame in fireplace. Maintain necessary clearances to
combustibles.
•
Framing materials should not come in actual contact with the
fireplace.
•
If installing a mantel (combustible material may be used), follow
Figure 3.8 below.
