Setting Up Your DAW

Direct Network Connection (Macintosh)

To create a new network location for the Duality console:
• On your computer go to System Preferences and click on the Network icon.
• On the Location dropdown, select Edit Locations...
• Click on the '+' symbol and add a new location name, probably 'Duality',
and then click Done.
To simplify the process of switching between networks, it is recommended that you
create an additional network Location ('Internet' for example) to enable separate
connection to the internet. This would use the network settings provided by your
Internet Service Provider or network administrator. You can easily switch between
network Locations by going to the Network Menu and scrolling down.
Next, apply the Network IP settings:
• Set Configure IPv4 to Manually then fill in the IP Address and Subnet mask boxes with the numbers shown below.
The IP address should be in the 192.168.1.nnn range with a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0.
Ethernet must
be the primary
interface
Now physically connect the console:
• Using an RJ45 cable, make a direct network connection between the Network port on your Duality to a network
port on your workstation computer.
Note that many computer adaptor cards will autosense a direct connection negating the need for a crossover cable. If you
are unsure whether your workstation computer's network adapter has this functionality, please use a crossover rather than
a pin-to-pin cable.
Please note that currently OS X does not allow two ports to be used for IP traffic. As such, the connection to your main
network will not be available while the Duality is connected.
Note also that if your workstation computer is a Mac, you should ensure that your Mac Airport
is switched off. We strongly recommend this as Airport is known to cause conflicts with ipMIDI
data. If you wish to use the internet, we suggest you configure Duality with a Router/Switch
(see Connection Using DHCP).
• check that the IP address is set to FIXED in the console's SSL > MISC > NET menu.
To confirm that the physical connection is established, it can be checked from a terminal command, using the 'Ping' command.
