Channel Guardian Setup
Channel Guardian Setup is the second setup procedure of the
Guardian Setup function. A Channel Guardian Setup menu is
displayed following the Contigure Channel Detection Zones
procedure, page 12. This menu, illustrated below, is used to
set all motion detection characteristics and responses for the
selected channel. The system default values are indicated in
this menu illustration,

ALARM MODE
Guardian mode comparison of input frames to the stored image
is controlled by three parameters: VIEW OBSTRUCTION,
SCENE RETENTION, and SENSITIVITY. These parameters
work together to detect a level of change in the input image.
To initiate a motion detection alarm, all three criteria must be
met.
An example scenario using Guardian mode is shown in the
Appendix, page E.

VIEW OBSTRUCTION

The VIEW OBSTRUCTION parameter defines the relative
amount of change in picture content, as compared with a pre-
stored image, which is required for an alarm. There are three
settings for VIEW OBSTRUCTION LOW results in a motion
detection alarm when there is over 50% change in the picture
content from the stored image; MED results in motion
detection when there is over 75% change; and HIGH results in
motion detection only when there is over 87.5% change in the
picture.
VIEW OBSTRUCTION is set to the same value for all zones
in each channel. The default setting is LOW. To change the
setting for the selected channel:
1. Move the cursor to the VIEW OBSTRUCTION line.
2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to cycle the value,
between LOW, MED, or HIGH.

SCENE RETENTION

The SCENE RETENTION parameter in Guardian mode
affects the unit's sensitivity to slow moving objects. High
settings result in higher sensitivity to slow or infrequent
motion, such as the movement of leaves on a tree. Low
settings result in decreased sensitivity to such movements.
SCENE RETENTION is set the same for all zones in each
channel. The setting range for SCENE RETENTION is from 1
to 15 where 1 is maximum retention, and 15 is minimum
retention. The default setting for SCENE RETENTION is 8.

To change the setting for the selected channel:
8
1. Move the cursor to the SCENE RETENTION line.

2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to decrement or
increment the value, from 1 to 15.
SENSITIVITY
The SENSITIVITY parameter adjusts the motion detection
circuitry of each channel to detect moving objects of varying
speed and contrast. High settings of SENSITIVITY result in
detection of slow moving objects with very low contrast, while
low settings require greater contrast or speed to cause an
alarm.
SENSITIVITY is set separately for each zone in the selected
channel. The setting range for SENSITIVITY is from 1, the
lowest sensitivity, to 15, the highest sensitivity. The default
setting for each zone is 8. To change the setting:
1. Move the cursor to the SENSITIVITY ZONE line desired.
2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to decrement or
increment the value, from 1 to 15.

DETECT INDICATOR

DETECT INDICATOR places white dots in all cells of the
entire Detection Zone when the current image in a zone has
changed by the specified (View Obstruction) amount. The
dots do not vary in intensity; they are removed when the
change in the image drops below the specified amount.
The DETECT INDICATOR parameter can be set to ON
(enabled) or OFF (disabled). The default setting is ON,
enabled. To change the setting:
1. Move the cursor to the DETECT INDICATOR line.
2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT button to select ON or OFF.
