Introduction
This section provides guidelines for hydraulic fluid connections and other process con-
nections for setting up BioProcess LPLC and MPLC columns for operation.
General guidelines for
connections
Hydraulic fluid packing
connections
Hydraulic fluid is connected to the inlet and outlet valves on top of the column.
Refer to the Equipment Data Sheet (EDS) for connection specifications.
48
Use piping or tubing that has an internal diameter sufficient for the flow rate specified.
The inner diameter of the tubing and its connections should be greater than or equal
to the corresponding diameter of the column tubing.
Inlet and outlet containers shall be located and arranged so that back pressure and
suction heights remain within the specified limits, refer to Chapter 8 Reference infor-
mation, on page 94 and the column-specific documentation package for specified
limits.
Keep tubing lengths as short as possible to minimize hold-up volume.
Route tubing to minimize the risk of tripping when operating the column and con-
nected system.
If a hose becomes pulled by an accidental tripping, check for damage, leakage and
mechanical rigidity before continuing operation.
Make sure that the chemical properties of the tubing used meet or exceed the
properties specified for chemical resistance.
