Verify BACnet Communication

The BACnet Configuration Tool can also be used to verify that
the communication module is successfully passing data to the
network. The following section describes how to use the Test
tab for this purpose.
1. Open the BACnet Configuration Tool and navigate to the
Test tab
(Figure
20).
2. Select the center radio button "ObjectID/ObjectName/
Units."
3. Press the Read button in the upper left-hand portion
of the screen. The Read Status counts to 100% while
the Object ID, Object Name, and Present Value fields
populate.
4. After reaching 100%, check the Present Value of the
variables to verify that they are reading actual current
values
(Figure
21).
NOTE: Another way to verify BACnet communication is to
record the present values, then perform a second
Read a few minutes later and confirm if some of the
temperature measurement values have changed
slightly over time.

Reads all the properties of the unit controller Device Object. Before clicking the Read button, verify
that the Device Instance at the top of the screen is correct.
Writes any value on the BACnet Device tab to the unit controller. Before clicking Write, verify that the
Device Instance at the top of the screen is correct.
Resets all values on the BACnet Device tab to their default (i.e. factory) values. The default settings
are not written to the unit controller until the Write button is clicked.
Synchronizes the communication module clock with the current time. Pushing this button sets the
clock in the module, but since this is an unacknowledged BACnet command, there is no obvious
indication of the change in the BACnet Configuration Tool's Time Synch field. Verify the date and time
at the BAS workstation.
Restarts the communication module if the Password field matches the Password property of the
chiller unit controller's Device Object.
